Please already mark your calendars for the 2015 Zinck's Night on the third Thursday in October -- just as every year! Klaus Conrad (M.S.'60) and Deloyce Conrad (B.S.'59) of the Munich Chapter have reserved a table in some of the areas at the Ratskeller right at Marienplatz in the center of Munich for anytime after 6;30pm. Marienplatz can easily be reached by S- or U-Bahn public transportation.

Deloyce and Klaus are inviting all intested Cornellians to join fellow alumni, spouses and friends around the world for the annual celebration of the

International Spirit of Zinck’s Night

In addition to this posting Deloyce also tries to reach all Cornellians and Friends in the greater Munich area by e-mail. Please do help her out if you can to have a complete and accurate (e-)mailing list of Cornell alumni in the greater Munich area.

Klaus and Deloyce Conrad may again announce plans, as during the last many years, for the "Summer Quarterly" of the Munich Chapter.

This annual Cornell beer garden “get-together” in Munich may again take place in the Hirschgarten, (www.hirschgarten.de) any time after 6:30 p.m. Directions and parking are also given in the English version on the Hirschgarten website.  It gives the S-Bahn directions as well – it is important that the correct stop is “Laim” and not the “Hirschgarten” stop! In case of bad weather Deloyce and Klaus may reserve a table either under an awning, or indoors.  The reservation is always done under the name “Cornell-Conrad.”

This year's annual Cornell weekend will resume in the east of Germany, in the city of Leipzig, in the German federal state of Saxony. Preparations  are almost complete for the the program, the agenda for the annual meeting, the registration form and of course the official invitation will be published. You may also register with the new CornellConnect event registration.

The Leipzig meeting will convene at the Steigenberger Grandhotel Handelshof in Leipzig. We are greateful to our Cornell Hotel School co-alumnus Tobias Brown for having assisted us in negotiating for room contingencies  at our two conference hotels, the Steigenberger Grandhotel Handelshof Hotel and the Intercity Hotel, located almost next to one another.

We will start the weekend with a welcome event and dinner at 07:00 p.m. at the famous “Auerbachs Keller”, Grimmaische Str. 2-4, 04109 Leipzig. An after dinner presentation will be given by the journalist Karsten Pietsch about "1000 Years of Leipzig in 100 Minutes". This follows our line of learning about the history at all of those places we have visited over the many years of annual Cornell weekends.

We will continue the weekend at 09:00 a.m. with our annual Members Meeting of the Cornell Club of Germany e.V. at the Steigenberger Grandhotel Handelshof.

At 10:30 a.m. we all are invited to come togehter for a guided tour of the city center of Leipzig.

Around 12:15 p.m. we are going to sit down for lunch at the Gasthaus Barthels Hof, Hainstrasse 1, 04109 Leipzig.

At 01:30 p.m. we will continue the day with with a guided bus tour (with a stop at the "Völkerschlachtsdenkmal") to and through the Leipziger Neuseenland, worth knowing for the redevelopment of the former surface mining area and its use today.

As we are approaching 03:00 p.m. a boat trip on the Markkleeberg Lake with coffee and cake is waiting for us. Thereafter we are returning to Leipzig per bus. After arriving there some wonderful sound for our ears is being served with an organ concert at the Nikolai Church
at 05:00 p.m.

After that we will get ready for the evening event which will start at the Steigenberger at
07:00 p.m. with Aperto followed by a festive dinner.

Around 08:30 p.m. an after dinner presentation will be given by Dipl.-Phys. Hans-Guenter Thonemann, MS'81 (Cornell): "Particle Physics @ Cornell -  A Journey through time from Ithaca via Los Alamos, Hiroshima and Nagasaki to Geneva, Higgs and Heidelberg, Tuebingen, Hamburg and Back", a different perspective of ones interest in history.

This is the final day of our annual Cornell Weekend at Leipzig and we will start the day at
09:30 a.m. with our traditional "Big Red Brunch". At 11.00 a.m. the official program of the weekend will end.
